Sunrise is the highest point in Mount Rainier National Park to which you can drive. Its facilities and services include a visitor center, day-use lodge with food service, picnicking and many hiking trails for all skill levels. Due to its elevation and heavy snowfall, Sunrise usually opens in early July and closes in late September. Located just fifteen miles off the Chinook Scenic Byway, the scenic drive to Sunrise provides several stunning viewpoints and access to trailheads. An entrance fee is required at the park's White River Entrance station located approximately one mile off Highway 410. Overnight camping is available at the White River Campground on the road to Sunrise. Expect congestion and heavy visitation on sunny summer weekends. Weekday visits are strongly recommended.
